Adelaide Town Hall

landmark

The Adelaide Town Hall features a tall, sandstone clock tower that dominates the King William Street skyline. Opened in eighteen sixty-six, it served as the center of municipal government and a venue for grand public meetings. During the royal tour of nineteen twenty-seven, the Duke and Duchess of York greeted thousands of people from the balcony. A massive chandelier hangs inside the main auditorium, a gift from the city of Adelaide to celebrate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth the Second in nineteen fifty-three.
