Migration Museum

The Migration Museum occupies the site of the former Destitute Asylum, identifiable by the thick, rough-hewn stone walls and the narrow, barred windows of the old infirmary buildings. Opened in nineteen eighty-six, it functions as a social history archive detailing the arrivals of people to South Australia. In the late nineteenth century, this same courtyard held those deemed unable to support themselves, including the elderly and those abandoned by their families. Their lives left behind the physical scars still embedded in this masonry.
