Suite 11 Victoria Square

The building at eleven Victoria Square stands out for its curved, mid-century facade of glass and concrete that breaks the pattern of the older, sandstone neighbors. It opened in nineteen sixty-five as the headquarters for the State Government Insurance Commission. Back then, the design signaled a push toward modernism in Adelaide’s civic heart. The office block replaced smaller Victorian structures, occupying a corner once owned by early merchant adventurers who gambled on the city’s rapid growth during the nineteenth century.
