Victoria Square

Victoria Square is the geometric center of Adelaide, laid out by Colonel William Light in eighteen thirty-seven. It serves as the city’s heart, framed by the Supreme Court, the treasury buildings, and the central market. Its most striking feature is the Three Rivers Fountain, a bronze sculpture featuring three figures representing the Torrens, the Onkaparinga, and the Port rivers. Local residents once protested the fountain's unveiling in nineteen sixty-eight, as many found the abstract, muscular figures unsettling compared to traditional public statues.
