Light Square

Light Square features a central bronze monument to Colonel William Light, the man who surveyed Adelaide in eighteen thirty-seven. He stands atop a granite pedestal, gazing toward the city center he laid out with his signature grid design. Beneath the paved ground, Light himself remains buried near the base of the statue. His original grave was marked by a simple lead plate, but current visitors see a taller, more imposing tribute to the man who chose this site for the capital.
