The bronze statue of Dame Roma Mitchell stands tall near the Government House gate, dressed in her Supreme Court robes with a gentle, observant expression. She became the first female judge in Australia in nineteen sixty-five, and later served as the first female Governor of South Australia. Sculptor Igor Babailov captured her likeness years after she passed away. He used photographs and consulted those who knew her well to ensure the tilt of her head and her steady gaze felt authentic.
