The Reserve Bank Building on Victoria Square stands out because of its dark, green-tinted glass curtain wall and rigid, rectangular silhouette. Completed in nineteen sixty-six, this structure replaced the older, grander bank offices that once defined the corner. Architect John Domicelj designed it to project a modern, international image for Australia’s central bank. During the construction, workers discovered stone foundations from the city’s early colonial days, which were promptly cleared away to make room for the deep concrete footings needed for this tower.
