Scots’ Church Melbourne

The Scots' Church stands out for its needle-like bluestone spire that rises two hundred and eleven feet above the corner of Collins and Russell streets. It serves as the mother church of Presbyterianism in Victoria. When the original nineteen-thirties-era spire was struck by lightning and later dismantled, the congregation spent years raising funds to restore the landmark to its nineteenth-century silhouette. The architect, Joseph Reed, designed the building in the Gothic Revival style, using honey-colored freestone against the dark local bluestone.
