The building is a brick block on the corner of Saint-Vallier and Bagot streets, easily identified by the wide, arched windows framed in limestone that span its facade. For over a century, this structure operated as a bustling shoe factory. Workers inside cut leather and stitched soles by the thousands for the massive industry that once defined the Saint-Roch neighborhood. Today, students from the School of Visual Arts occupy these same floors, turning industrial workspaces into bright, open studios for painting and design.
