Saint-Roch Catholic Church

The twin steeples of Saint-Roch Catholic Church rise two hundred and twenty feet above the lower town, clad in copper that has weathered to a distinct, pale seafoam green. This structure served a working-class neighborhood that exploded in population during the late nineteenth century. Parishioners once hauled stones for the foundation by hand, laboring during their evenings to build a sanctuary large enough for their growing families. It remains the largest church in Quebec City, built to hold three thousand people at once.
