Notre-Dame-des-Victoires Catholic Church

The stone facade of Notre-Dame-des-Victoires sits directly in the center of Place Royale. Built in sixteen eighty-eight, it commemorates two separate French victories against British naval fleets attempting to seize the city. During the Siege of Quebec in seventeen fifty-nine, British cannons decimated the structure, leaving only the thick stone walls standing. When parishioners began the long process of reconstruction, they insisted on keeping the original charred masonry at the base, visible even now if you stand near the main entrance.
