Séminaire de Québec

The Séminaire de Québec is defined by its steep, slate-covered roof and the stone walls that have occupied this high ground since sixteen sixty-three. Bishop François de Laval founded this institution to train priests for the New World, and for centuries, the site served as the intellectual heart of New France. When the British fleet arrived in seventeen fifty-nine, the seminary buildings held their ground even as the city fell, preserving thousands of documents that now fill the expansive archives hidden behind these heavy doors.
