Place Royale

Place Royale is defined by the stone bust of King Louis the Fourteenth that stands in the center of its cobblestone square. This spot marks the site of the Habitation founded by Samuel de Champlain in sixteen oh eight. It served as the primary trading post for the French in North America. By the middle of the eighteenth century, the square became a bustling marketplace where ships unloaded goods directly from France, and merchants lived in the stone houses lining the perimeter.
