Pierre-Dugua-De-Mons Terrace

The Pierre-Dugua-De-Mons Terrace features a wooden gazebo perched on a stone foundation, overlooking the Saint Lawrence River from the cliff edge. It marks the site of the former residence of the governor of Quebec, built in the early seventeenth century. Samuel de Champlain lived here for a time while overseeing the young colony. Fire destroyed the house in sixteen ninety-six, leaving behind these foundations, which later served as a garden space for the military hospital located nearby.
