The Gabrielle-Roy Library stands out because of its stark, concrete exterior and the wide, sweeping curves that dominate its facade. It replaced the old Saint-Roch market in the nineteen eighties, signaling a shift in the neighborhood from a purely industrial hub to a center for community resources. Architect Jean-Claude Leclerc designed the structure to prioritize light, filling the interior with open space. It bears the name of the celebrated Manitoban novelist who lived in the city and depicted its people in her writing.
