Bokar Tower

Bokar Tower rises as a wide, rounded stone bastion projecting from the western stretch of the Dubrovnik city walls. Architects designed this fort during the late fifteenth century to protect the Pile Gate from invaders approaching by land. Michelozzo di Bartolomeo, a Florentine master builder, oversaw the construction, which required cutting deep moats into the rock to isolate the tower from the cliffside. During the seventeenth century, silversmiths used the upper levels of the tower to cast decorative metal works.
