Orlando's Column

Orlando's Column stands in the heart of the Stradun, identifiable by the stone knight carved in armor, holding a sword and shield. Erected in fourteen eighteen, this column represented the sovereignty of the Republic of Ragusa. It served as a site for public proclamations and the raising of the flag of Saint Blaise. During a fierce storm in eighteen twenty-five, the statue fell. Workers repaired and re-erected it years later, but it remains a marker of local law and centuries of independent trade.
