Prijeko ulica

Prijeko Street runs parallel to the main thoroughfare of the Old City, defined by its narrow, steep stone staircases that climb toward the northern walls. It began as a residential district for the common people when the city expanded in the thirteenth century, long after the aristocratic families had settled along the Stradun. During the nineteen ninety-one siege, the street suffered severe shelling. Residents spent months living in basements while mortar fire carved deep gouges into the white limestone stairs and facades.
