Kovacka Ulica sits in the heart of the Old Town, identifiable by the narrow, steep stone steps rising sharply between high-walled houses. This street served as the medieval metalworking hub of Dubrovnik. Blacksmiths hammered iron and copper here for centuries, keeping their forges away from the main thoroughfares to prevent fires. In the late sixteenth century, a massive blaze still broke out, destroying dozens of workshops. The city council reacted by ordering all smiths to relocate their furnaces, leaving behind these quiet, empty passageways.
