Ethnographic Museum “Rupe”

The Ethnographic Museum Rupe sits inside a sixteenth-century stone granary, recognizable by the series of deep, cylindrical wells carved directly into the bedrock. Dubrovnik’s Senate commissioned these stone pits to store the city’s grain supply, keeping it dry and cool enough to withstand a long siege. A merchant named Ivan Marinov Gundulic once oversaw these reserves, ensuring the Republic survived whenever trade routes failed. Today, the storage pits serve as the museum’s foundation, holding objects that trace the daily lives of people here.
