Ploce Gate

historic

The stone arch of the Ploče Gate sits at the eastern entrance to the Old Town, identifiable by the heavy wooden bridge spanning the defensive moat. While the main western gate served traders, the Republic of Ragusa built this eastern passage in the fifteen hundreds to connect the city directly to the port and the eastern approach. Its structure includes a small chapel dedicated to Saint Luke, where guards once knelt before their shifts, watching the bridge chains rise against the night.
