Buza Gate

The Buza Gate is a narrow opening cut directly through the thick medieval stone of the northern city walls. Unlike the main entrances protected by massive drawbridges and complex gatehouses, this portal served no defensive purpose during the Republic of Dubrovnik. In nineteen oh eight, the Austro-Hungarian military authorities blasted this hole through the ramparts. They needed a direct route from the city to the newly constructed fortification on the cliffs above, bypassing the longer walk through the official western gates.
