The Franciscan Monastery in Dubrovnik is recognizable by the intricate, Romanesque portal carved into its stone facade. The brothers moved their base inside the city walls in thirteen seventeen because they feared the military vulnerabilities of their previous site outside the gates. While the monastery became a center for theological study, its most enduring feature is the fourteenth-century pharmacy. It remains one of the oldest operating pharmacies in the world, tracing its continuous service back to the day the monastery opened its doors.
