The Inter-University Center occupies a former vocational school building, distinguished by its stark, boxy concrete facade and the rhythmic, deep-set windows that break up its utilitarian exterior. Established in nineteen seventy-four, it functioned as a rare intellectual bridge across the Iron Curtain during the Cold War. Scholars from Eastern and Western blocs gathered here in neutral territory to exchange ideas. During the siege of Dubrovnik in the early nineties, the building housed refugees and served as a makeshift base for international journalists.
