Tvrđava Minčeta

The Minčeta Tower is the highest point of the Dubrovnik city walls, distinguished by its massive, round stone base that carries a smaller, crenelated turret on top. It stands at the northern edge of the fortifications, where it has guarded the city since the mid-fourteenth century. When the threat of Ottoman expansion peaked in the fourteen sixties, the architect Michelozzo di Bartolomeo reinforced the walls to withstand cannon fire. He built this thick, rounded shell around the older, square structure that existed before.
