Zamanjina ulica is a narrow, steep stone staircase climbing the hillside in the Pile neighborhood of Dubrovnik. While the grander streets of the old city hold the palaces and squares, this alleyway represents the way locals lived away from the main thoroughfares. In the late nineteenth century, a heavy rockfall from the cliffs above crushed a house on this slope. Residents spent years clearing the debris by hand, turning the path into the distinct, winding flight of stairs that remains today.
