Maritime Museum

The Maritime Museum occupies the thick stone walls of Saint John Fortress, guarding the harbor entrance with a series of heavy casemates. Inside, the exhibits trace the rise of the Dubrovnik Republic as a global shipping power. A fourteenth-century statute regulated the building of merchant vessels here, mandating specific timber types to ensure durability. You will find small wooden models of those ships alongside navigational charts drawn when sailors still plotted their courses by the stars and the depth of the sea floor.
