Poljud Stadium

Poljud Stadium is a vast concrete shell shaped like a seashell, nested in a valley on the northern edge of Split. It was built for the nineteen seventy-nine Mediterranean Games, a project completed in a frantic eighteen months. Architect Boris Magas designed it to look like a stadium that had landed from space, with a massive roof spanning over two hundred meters without a single support pillar. Hajduk Split players run onto the pitch while thousands of fans roar from the steep, terraced stands.
