Mletački mul, Riva

The Mletački mul is the wide, stone-paved pier that extends from the middle of the Split waterfront, distinct for the way it breaks the straight line of the Riva. It dates back to the early eighteenth century, built by the Venetian Republic to allow ships to moor safely against the unpredictable Adriatic winds. Admiral Emo commissioned the pier to secure a strategic naval foothold. Eventually, it became the point where local merchants offloaded their grain and wine, shifting the harbor from a purely military zone.
