Split City Museum

The Split City Museum occupies the fifteenth-century Papalic Palace, recognized by the stone coats of arms embedded in its Gothic facade. This building served as the meeting place for Split’s humanist circle in the late Middle Ages, where scholars gathered to discuss Roman antiquities and classical poetry. When workers began renovating the structure in the nineteen-twenties, they discovered hidden rooms containing ancient marble fragments and manuscripts that had been sealed away for centuries. It remains a physical archive of the city’s intellectual life.
