Stadion Stari Plac is defined by the sharp, abrupt angle of its stone perimeter wall, which sits tight against the neighborhood streets. For decades, this grass pitch served as the home ground for the football club Hajduk Split. In nineteen twenty-four, the club president Fabjan Kaliterna insisted that the pitch be oriented north to south to avoid the blinding afternoon sun. Players often scrambled over these same outer walls to reach the changing rooms during the early years of the club.
