Sustipan

Sustipan is a narrow, rocky peninsula that pushes into the Adriatic Sea, marked by a lone, neoclassical gazebo overlooking the water. It functioned as a cemetery for the citizens of Split for centuries, housing the final remains of noble families and commoners alike beneath cypress trees. In nineteen fifty-nine, the local government cleared the graves to turn the grounds into a park. Workers dumped the headstones into the sea to create the foundation for the current walking paths and the grassy plateau.
