Radić Brothers Square (Fruit Square)

The octagonal tower at the square’s edge is the last remaining piece of the fifteenth-century Venetian defensive system. It stands near the fruit sellers who gave the plaza its common name. In nineteen twenty-eight, the city unveiled a bronze statue of the poet Marko Marulic here, crafted by sculptor Ivan Mestrovic. The poet sits with a book, turned toward the sea, while the daily market trade happens at his feet. The tower once blocked attackers, but it now simply anchors the square.
