The Negresco stands out along the Promenade des Anglais because of its distinctive pink dome. Henri Negresco, a Romanian musician, commissioned this hotel in nineteen twelve. He wanted a palace for the international elite, filling it with gold leaf, crystal chandeliers, and a collection of art that spans five centuries. When the First World War broke out only two years after it opened, the French government seized the building to use as a military hospital, and Henri died penniless before seeing his dream thrive.
