The Pierre Grenier Cemetery sits behind a high, windowless wall on a busy corner in Boulogne-Billancourt. It opened in eighteen ninety-four to handle the overflow from the older communal cemetery, which had run out of room as the town’s population exploded with the industrial revolution. Pierre Grenier, a former mayor who advocated for the land acquisition, eventually found his own final resting place here among the laborers and factory workers who fueled the local Renault car plants for generations.
