Rue Cambronne

landmark

Rue Cambronne takes its name from Pierre Cambronne, a French general who supposedly uttered a single, vulgar word when asked to surrender at the Battle of Waterloo. While historians debate whether he actually said it, the legend stuck to him, and eventually to this street. The road cuts through the fifteenth arrondissement, lined with tall, gray Haussmann-style apartment buildings. It serves as a quiet residential artery, distinct from the busier boulevards nearby, where neighbors go about their day behind heavy wooden doors.
