Place des États-Unis

The Place des États-Unis features a central bronze fountain where two larger-than-life figures, Washington and Lafayette, stand in a firm handshake. This small, triangular square honors the alliance between France and the United States during the American Revolutionary War. It became a favorite residential area for wealthy Americans in Paris during the late nineteenth century. Levi Parsons Morton, a former United States Vice President, lived in one of the limestone townhouses here and lobbied for the square to carry its current name.
