Promenade Bernard-Lafay

The Promenade Bernard-Lafay follows the path of the old Petite Ceinture railway line, creating a green ribbon that cuts through the seventeenth arrondissement. It is named for the doctor and politician who served as the mayor of this district for thirty-four years. Where steam trains once hauled freight and passengers around the city, local residents now walk between rows of elms and cherry trees. The steel rails remain buried beneath the soil, out of sight while the city moves overhead.
