Hippodrome de Pantin

The Hippodrome de Pantin is a massive, windowless brick structure that looms over the neighborhood with a distinct, fortress-like silhouette. In nineteen hundred, it served as a colossal theater for aquatic spectacles and circus acts, capable of seating thousands of people. The architect, Joseph Cassien-Bernard, designed the interior with a moving stage that could submerge for water displays. Despite its grand engineering, the building struggled to draw consistent crowds and shuttered its doors as a performance venue only a few years later.
