Square de la Paix

park garden

The Square de la Paix occupies a narrow, triangular slice of land where the Rue de la Chine meets the Rue de la Mare. Its most defining feature is the central playground, which sits directly over what was once part of the dense, labyrinthine street network of the old Belleville village. This small garden appeared in the nineteen seventies as the city cleared older, cramped housing to introduce greenery into the neighborhood. Local children now climb over structures built on top of demolished alleyways.
