The Lido is identifiable by the wide, brightly lit canopy reaching out over the pavement on the Avenue des Champs-Elysees. Joseph and Louis Clerico opened this venue in nineteen forty-six, transforming a former swimming pool into a cabaret. They imported the dinner show concept from Italy, pairing elaborate performances with multicourse meals served at tables arranged in tiers. It remains one of the few spots where audiences watch synchronized swimmers and dancers in a space once filled by a literal underground pool.
