Abbey of St. Mary, Paris

religious

The Abbey of Saint Mary in Auteuil is defined by the severe, rectangular brick facade that stands in sharp contrast to the surrounding residential streets. Founded in nineteen twenty-four by the Benedictine nuns, the convent replaced an older estate house that once occupied the plot. When the sisters arrived, they committed themselves to a life of strict silence and manual labor, eventually funding the construction of this chapel through the sale of their own handmade vestments and liturgical linens.
