Notre-Dame d'Auteuil

The bell tower of Notre-Dame d'Auteuil rises with a distinct, slender spire that dominates the local skyline, crafted from the grey stone of the late nineteenth century. Joseph Vaudremer designed this Romanesque-Byzantine hybrid to replace an older church that sat on the same ground for centuries. During the construction in eighteen seventy-seven, workers unearthed a collection of Merovingian sarcophagi, revealing that residents have gathered at this exact spot to bury their dead since the seventh century.
