The Maison de la culture du Japon à Paris features a curved, glass-and-steel facade that overlooks the Seine. Designed by architects Kenzo Tange and Masaki Yanagi, the building opened in nineteen ninety-seven to foster cultural exchange between France and Japan. Before this structure rose, the Japanese community in Paris lacked a dedicated venue for traditional tea ceremonies, cinema, and performing arts. Tange chose this site specifically to mirror the openness of the river, connecting Japanese aesthetics with the architecture of the capital.
