The Church of Our Lady of the Nativity at Bercy features a facade of rough, weathered stone that contrasts with the sleek, modern glass towers rising nearby. Built in the early nineteenth century, it served the wine merchants and laborers who once crowded the Bercy warehouses. Architect Etienne-Theodore Bernier designed the structure to withstand the heavy traffic of the port. A flood in nineteen ten left a water line halfway up the nave, leaving stains that workmen decided to leave visible for decades.
