The Église Notre-Dame-de-la-Nativité de Bercy stands out with a stark, neoclassical stone facade that looks far older than the modern steel and glass district surrounding it. It sits on a site where a chapel has existed since the seventeenth century, originally serving the workers and vineyard laborers who lived along the Seine. In eighteen twenty-two, the architect Étienne-Hippolyte Godde reconstructed the church to accommodate a growing congregation. He designed it as a functional, sober space for a neighborhood defined by wine trade.
