Prießnitz Mündung

The Prießnitz stream finishes its four mile journey through Dresden here, slipping into the Elbe through a narrow, stone-walled channel. In the nineteenth century, the city grew fast, and engineers tucked the stream into this culvert to prevent flooding and manage the muddy banks. A small iron footbridge arches over the mouth of the stream, where the water often slows to a crawl before meeting the river. It marks the quiet end of a waterway that once powered mills across the northern hills.
