The ibis Dresden Zentrum features a stark, modular facade of grey panels and repeating windows, typical of late twentieth-century urban planning in the former East Germany. It occupies a site rebuilt after the nineteen forty-five bombing raids left the city center in ruins. Architect Wolfram Starke designed the structure in the nineteen eighties as the Hotel Newa, a primary destination for international travelers visiting the socialist state. It remains a fixture of the Prager Strasse pedestrian zone, housing guests in a streamlined, functionalist core.
