Stoa X. Mpolani

other

The Stoa of Mpolani sits tucked into the modern streetscape of Athens, distinguishable by the weathered, partially reconstructed marble columns that rise against the backdrop of newer buildings. Built in the second century, this structure served as a shaded walkway and meeting spot for merchants and citizens. Excavations once revealed a series of small rooms behind the colonnade where tradespeople kept their goods. Someone once scratched a game board into the stone floor, which remains visible near the western end.
