Vallianeio Megaron

The Vallianeio Megaron stands out with its grand, neoclassical facade of Pentelic marble and a prominent double staircase leading to the entrance. It serves as the National Library of Greece, commissioned by the wealthy benefactor Panagis Vallianos in the late nineteenth century. Vallianos wanted to provide a permanent home for the country’s collection of manuscripts and books. During the construction, architects clashed over the heavy, austere design, yet the library became a fixture of the cityscape upon its completion in nineteen oh three.
